Stand Up Squirrel

This morning on my walk with my camera and my cat Simon I came on this this really noisy squirrel.  I think he was wanting to cross the road and maybe he was sizing me up? LOL

He never did cross the road and he retreated back to the tree. Nonetheless...I thanked him for letting me take a few photos of him..:)

Half Moon

This morning was a very foggy  morning here in Florida. I started off taking some photos of fog but then I looked up in the sky and saw this gorgeous half moon and decided it was a better subject to photograph.

Red Shouldered Hawk

This morning I grabbed my camera about 8:30 a.m. and decided I would head outside to see if I could get some wildlife shots of some birds. Mornings in Florida are pretty active with wildlife.  Not 100 yards from my front door I found a beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk.  He is usually found nearby the house.. its just a matter of finding where he is hanging out.  Such a beauty!

Mockingbird- Florida State Bird

Good Morning!

I woke up a bit early this morning and decided I would venture outside to see if I could find anything to take a few photos of.   The first subject I was able to photograph was this beautiful little Mockingbird, (which is also the Florida State bird) which was standing on top of our mailbox.  I knew I heard him singing outside my front door and luckily he didn't fly away right away and I was able to get a few shots.

Good Morning...:)

It's been awhile since I have made any posts but this morning I was taking some photos of my cat, Simon and I took a photo that I have been trying to get for a very,  very long time and wanted to share it here. This cat is a great model but he doesn't always sit so still.  Today was my lucky day!

Water Drop and Splash Photography by Julie Everhart

Good morning!

Over the weekend my husband and I spent some time taking photos of something neither of us have done before and it was a great success! We took photos of water drops and water collision photos! Not something that Nature and Landscape photographers typically do.   There was a challenge on Gurushots.com ( Water Drops and Splash) and we wanted to enter it so we got out our gear and starting taking some photos. I ended up in 6th place overall in the challenge ( Honorable Mention) and my husband finished in 33rd place overall. :) :) :) :) :)

Here are just a few of some of my other Water Drop images that were taken this weekend.  I had so much fun photographing these splashes!

Blooming Lily's -Indoor Photography

Good afternoon!!  I received these gorgeous lily's from my husband for Mother's Day and took some time today to do a little indoor photography.  How could I pass up this opportunity? I am pretty pleased with the results since I normally do not do much indoor photography. They smell great too!! :)

Orange Flower Refraction Photo

Today I decided I would finally try something that I have been wanting to try for a long time. Water Drop Refraction Photography! So I gathered up the necessary supplies and printed an image I wanted to use and started taking some photos. If you try this at home you will want to experiment with different images and different lighting to get the desired result you are after.

I could spend all  day long doing this with different images, its really a very fun and artistic form of photography. Shooting at different angles also changes everything about the refraction.

Oil and Water Photography

This past weekend I have been experimenting with Oil and Water Photography. I don't do much indoor photography but sometimes I come across something that peaks my interest and I want to try it and see what results I can achieve.

Here are a few photos from my experiments.I used my Nikon D810 with a 50mm, F 1.8 lens.

On a couple of websites/blogs I visited they recommended using a little dish soap in with your water and oil to give the bubbles a little more of a rounded shape. I tried it and personally was not fond of the mix. But, that is just me. You might find that you like the look.  The photos below are some of my examples with the soap added.

Makes for some interesting and colorful macro photos to add to your collection if nothing else, lol.

New Fractal Artwork- It's Been Ages

It's been waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long since I have sat down at my computer and created a fractal artwork!  This morning I decided to open up the program and see what I could create.  Since Valentine's Day is not far away and I love hearts ( collect them actually) I chose to start with a heart shape and go from there. It took me about 4 hours to settle on the final image that you see here below and render it.

Glowing Fractal Heart by Julie Everhart

There are not too many of us Fractal Artists out there and for good reason!
1) It takes a long time to learn how to learn to use the programs ( whichever one you choose).

2) It takes hours of your time to actually create the image you want to render.

3) The rendering time can be anywhere from 5 minutes to days.  The longer you let it render.. the more detail you will achieve in the final image.

The good news is that once you do make a creation it is yours and yours alone and cannot be recreated by anyone else...:)

Digital Artwork- Double Exposure

Last night I was sitting at my computer wanting to create another double exposure using some of my older images so I found one of my favorite photos of my husband and photographer, Bob Blankenship and combined it with an image I took in Perkins Cove ( Ogunquit, Maine).  I really liked how the trees blended into his beard. Cool stuff if you ask me!

Shooting Double Exposures from my Nikon D810

Today I took my camera outside to practice taking double exposures with my camera.  I din't try to get too fancy but I wanted to get a little artistic. The Nikon D810 has the ability to do up to 10 exposures.  I went up to 3 and for me it was getting a bit too much.  I decided to just stick with 2 and see what I could create.

Double exposures are best shot with a silhouetted subject first so I used myself as the subject. I then pointed the camera up to some blue sky and tree limbs and the result is what you see below. I just love the tree limbs arms I have! LOL

If you haven't tried taking double exposures with your camera I suggest you spend a little time doing so.  You never know what fascinating artworks you might just create!

Remembering the Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland

In November of 2016, my husband and I visited the U.K on a 19 day journey across England and Scotland. One castle that we simply could not miss was the Eilean Donan Castle.  We spent the most time at this castle over all the other castles we visited. It was a very cold day and we had to have a few hot chocolates but it was certainly worth it.  The beauty we saw there that day can never be forgotten.Just take a look at the image below and see for yourself.

Double Exposure Self Portrait

Double exposure photos are a really fun and unique way to create photo art.  It involves the layering of two images to create one unique image.  It takes a little time to find the two images you want to use and you may have to experiment with several images to get the desired effect. I like to combine nature with people. In the photo I am posting here today the background is a treeline turned sideways combined with a self portrait of me.

.
Double Exposure Self Portrait by Julie Everhart

The goal with double exposures is to be able to see both of the images in your finished photo.  You can experiment with hues and colors or black and white as well. The image below was done in black and white.

Faux Winter Photos- The Truth Revealed

I have seen many images on Facebook over the past week or so showing images of palm trees with "frost" or "snow" on them and people claiming them to be real. I hate to burst the bubble but the truth is that those are what are called Infrared Photography... and my specialty.  However, the images are beautiful and no one can deny that. The image I am showing you today is a photo I took a few years ago at one of my local parks. It is one of the best examples I can show you of infrared photography,

Infrared photography is photographing light that is not visible to the human eye but is seen with special infrared filters. The palm tree that was in front of me was not white at all, it was a beautiful, lush green. The camera photographs the light that radiates from the leaves of the trees and grasses, it is actually not photographing the landscape at all.. but just the light is sees.

The images do not come straight out of the camera this way. It takes a many hours ( countless hours) to learn how to properly edit the finished photograph to get this end result. This is what gives the viewer the surreal feel of the image and shows the art that goes into creating these beautiful images.

Infrared Photography - The Beginning of My Creations

Hard to believe that about this time 4 years ago I started learning how to do Infrared Photography (photos made with invisible infrared light, rather than visible light). It was a form of photography that had my interest for many years and I was always fascinated at the images I would see online. The images would have a very mysterious and surreal feel to them and are very otherwordly. I hadn't a clue where to begin but that wasn't going to stop me! I read as much information about it as I could online and I started gathering up all the necessary equipment and would head out nearly everyday taking the time to set up my camera at each location.

The image below was taken using an IR Filter on my Nikon D200. This was a 14 second exposure. You can see I got a lot of lens flare ( the yellow dots) in this image.  Still I was pleased that I was headed in the right direction!

Strange World- The early learning stages of my Infrared Photography- by Julie Everhart

In this second image you can see that I managed to get clearer images and that was when I knew I was ready to start composing the photographs. I am a pretty fast learner but I am also very determined to learn something when I put my mind to it. You could even say I become very obsessed, lol.

In December of 2015 I entered an Infrared Challenge on Gurushots and I won my first worldwide photography challenge. I was bound and determined to win that challenge.  Many call me the "Infrared Queen" and that is a title I am very proud of..:)  I spent the better part of 2014 taking infrared images, thousands upon thousands and spent endless hours in the digital darkroom learning how to edit these magical photos. All that hard work was worth it.

Contrast- Fire & Ice

This was a shot that I took on a December evening in upstate New York when the sky was a beautiful orangey-red. I liked the way the contrast was between the white snow, the silhouetted tree line line and the sunset.  It wasn't an easy shot for a beginner in photography to figure out how to get, but I managed it well enough.
